Skizzium Maintenance: What's Next & How You Can Help

Hi everyone!

First and foremost, I want to sincerely apologize for the silence regarding Skizzium Mods and the related services over the past week and a half. We encountered an unexpected situation that required immediate attention and careful communication.

As you may know from our previous announcement on X / Twitter, Skizzium Mods and its infrastructure have entered a maintenance state due to unforeseen circumstances. Our primary investor made a sudden departure, which unfortunately resulted in the shutdown of the main VPS hosting all our services.

How it all went down

Now, for the more detailed explanation - the same day as the announcement, I woke up at 3:45 PM. I opened my phone to check what's new and I saw that Spooky had left one of our group chats at precisely 3:32 PM. I checked and saw he blocked me and left all Skizzium-related servers.

At that moment I knew I have to act fast and backup as much as I can before he shuts down the VPS. I got up as fast as possible and sat down on my computer and went to work backing up data. I did my best until I was eventually shut out of the VPS, at which point I made the necessary announcements.

Since that day, all Skizzium services have been redirecting to the status page. As for the reason behind Spooky's leave, I'm not sure what it is. I can guess it's related to our personal relations because those haven't been the best lately, but that's just a guess.

Assessing the backed up and lost data

Thankfully, we managed to successfully back up the following critical data:

  • The entire Skizzium Mods database
  • All blog posts and configurations

Unfortunately, we were unable to save:

  • Our translation service's config
  • All translations for the Skizzium backend and frontend
  • All emails that have been sent out
  • Our email service's configuration
  • All help desk tickets and knowledge base articles

What's next for Skizzium and how you can help

Despite these challenges, our commitment to Skizzium Mods and our other projects remains unchanged. We will continue working as planned, albeit with a tighter budget and the absence of one developer who focused on Unreal Engine projects, that being Spooky.

Our top priority is restoring Skizzium Mods. This will happen once we meet two key criteria:

  1. Completion of the February Skizzium Mods update
  2. Securing funding for a new VPS

While I won't actively beg for donations, any support you can offer is deeply appreciated. If you believe in our projects and mission and have the means to contribute monetarily, visiting our Patreon page is a fantastic way to help. Membership options range from $2.50 to $10.

If you are a skilled developer or artist with lots of free time, you can also help us out a lot by applying as a volunteer and contributing to our projects directly.

Thank you for your continued understanding and support. We are dedicated to overcoming this hurdle and resuming operations as soon as possible.

Sincerly,
Radostin Stoyanov
